Celulosa Arauco y Constitución S.A. is once again relying on the proven technology of Paul Maschinenfabrik for the modernisation of its site in Cholguán, thereby enhancing the efficiency and future viability of its production. Arauco is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wood-based panels and has upgraded an existing MDF production line to bring it up to a modern production process.

Thanks to the long-standing, trusting working relationship and the positive experience with multirip saws from Paul, the choice once again fell on a machine from the South German mechanical engineering company. The scope of delivery includes a K34G-OU with lateral profiling unit, designed for precise processing and high efficiency. Automation components from Paul’s extensive product range ensure a smooth material flow during workpiece feeding and removal.

Two-shaft processing using the lateral profiling unit
The type K34G-OU multirip saw with top and bottom saw shaft has been an integral part of the product range for many years and has proven its worth with customers worldwide. It offers a high degree of flexibility and can be used for a variety of different applications. In addition to traditional wood-based materials, plastic or fibre cement panels can also be processed. Whilst the top saw shaft is designed specifically for precise grooving and profiling, the bottom saw shaft is responsible for efficiently ripping the panels fed.

At Arauco, this double-shaft multirip saw was the first to be fitted with a hogging and profiling unit, which offers additional processing options. This unit makes it possible to produce lateral profiles, such as tongue and groove, with high precision and repeatability. The ‘stationary’ tools are moved horizontally to the desired position via a user-friendly PLC control system. Vertical fine adjustment is carried out manually and allows for precise adaptation to different material requirements. The grooves and profiles are characterised by their high precision and show only minimal deviations in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. The result is a perfect fit with joints that are barely noticeable or visible. A quality feature that meets the highest standards of dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

Flexible solution
“This configuration has resulted in a solution that combines maximum precision with high economic efficiency,” explains Manfred Buck, Sales Director at Paul. “The targeted expansion of our core technology to include a lateral profiling unit ensures flexible processing of a variety of materials whilst maintaining consistently high process stability.” This project underlines the aim of Paul Maschinenfabrik to help customers worldwide move forward with practical solutions and to set new standards in industrial panel processing together.
